Valmiiden proggisten ongelma/ The problem with FOs

Olen vaihteeksi saanut taas valmiiksi juttuja.

For a change, I've actually managed to finish something. My scarfswap scarves are all done, and once I get to the post office, my part in the swap will be fulfilled :) Now I don't know what to do next.

The Versatility I started has been hibernating since late autumn, and for some reason I just haven't picked it up again. My Beloved's birthday is coming up next month, and his gift project is only a few rows in. I'm just finding it hard to do all the maths to make my gauge work. And I DON'T want to knit it in a bad mood, as I don't want any bad or negative feelings associated with it.

Viikonloppuna olen lähinnä kutonut yhtä ianikuista mallitilkkua syksyn 2008 IK:ssa olevaa villapaitaa varten. Aloitin myös Novitan Bambusta mallitilkkua hihatonta toppia varten, mutta en tiedä onko 3,5mm puikoilla tehty tilkku turhan löyhä. Cloud-sliparin kohta on edelleen auki, vaikka kävin ostamassa varuiksi lisää lankaa. Inspiraatio on vaan todella hukassa, enkä tiedä mistä aloittaa mallin suunnittelu.

Over the weekend I've mainly been knitting the same age old swatch for a lovely jumper in the fall 2008 Interweave Knits. I've also started a swatch for a sleeveless top out of Novita Bambu, but I don't know if the swatch done on 3.5mm needles isn't just a touch too loose. My Cloud-vest/tank is also on hold, despite me buying another 2 skeins of the yarn. My inspiration is AWOL, and I wouldn't know where to start the design process.

And a random comment to top it all off... I went to buy a bottle of wine on Saturday night, my hair up in a messy bun, held with two kiddie sized Peace Fleece knitting needles (the kind with baubles with flowers painted on the ends). Apparently this look wasn't quite enough to convince the salesperson that I am in fact over 18, and thus of a legal age to buy wine. I had to fish out my driver's license and show it to him whilst trying to stiffle my urge to giggle. Maybe I'll look 20, eventually, despite being closer to 30 now ;)

I picked up my first actual Secret Knitting Pal parcel from the post office today, despite an evil cold. The parcel in itself is gorgeous (designed by Ivana Helsinki for the postal service), and inside were 3 tops of Finnsheep wool for spinning, a pair of 80 cm Addi lace circulars (3,75mm), a a badge from Ilu (a Finnish indie dyer) that says "K2,P2" in Finnish, a special Valentine's Day present (a book and some very cute magnetic bookmarks) and a bar of chocolate that may, or may not, have been eaten already :D Thank you SO much SKP!

Lankojen viekkaus/ The cheekiness of yarn

I've been drawn to lace weight yarn for at least a week now. I've managed to not buy it, despite several close calls, but I ended up submitting to the call of the yarn yesterday. I slipped at a LYS, and ended up falling over into a shelf with some lovely blue Novita Cloud (a wool/bamboo blend). I was forced to buy 300g of it, and it's been calling to me to make it into a tank/vest since. Looks like I'll have to do some calculating based on my measurements and gauge, in order to make something that'll fit, preferrably with a cable in there somewhere. My (arts student) brains are hurting already...

I have lace on the brain

One of my old friends from primary and secondary school is getting married in July. In my BK (before knitting) days, I would start wondering what kind of a dress I should get, how I should do my hair etc. Now, the first thing I've started thinking about is "What kind of a lace shawl should I make to go with my dress?". Yes, I'm thinking of making a shawl, to go with a dress I haven't really given much thought to. I do almost understand this way of thinking, as knitting a large-ish lace stole/wrap will take a fair while, even given my penchance for lace knitted on larger needles... However, not knowing anything about my perspective dress makes things like colour choice a right pain. What if I put in the effort to knit a beautiful lace wrap in a glorious colour, which doesn't fit my dress?
